OPALE – The permanent observatory on perinatal mourning in Italy

by Claudia Ravaldi

OPALE, permanent observatory for perinatal bereavement, opens today to all women and (their partners) with experience of childbirth, abortion and perinatal death.

The Permanent Observatory for Perinatal Mourning (OPALE) is finally active to collect the testimonies and stories of women and their partners relating to childbirth and postpartum, the assistance received and the outcomes in terms of perinatal health and well-being.

The Observatory welcomes the stories of childbirth, of all types of births and with all outcomes, with particular attention to the stories of abortion, perinatal death, traumatic birth and childbirth from pregnancy following bereavement.

This project is the natural deepening of the Memory Box project, launched in 2007 with the aim of collecting the experiences of women and couples affected by abortion and perinatal death. In over ten years we have collected about 3000 testimonies of abortion and perinatal death thanks to which it has been possible to identify both the strengths of the assistance and the criticalities.

Thanks to the collaboration with our joint laboratory and some Anglo-Saxon research centers, from today we finally have the opportunity to measure respectful care in a detailed and accurate way also in Italy.

Data collection is anonymized and it takes about 35 minutes to complete all the questions.

You can leave your testimony here .
